Shower heads are one of the last places you’d think of to clean. We often mistakenly think that they can self-clean. However, shower heads are also prone to build up, just like the rest of our shower. If you’ve recently installed an Aroma Sense shower head into your shower, the work doesn’t stop there. To keep it functioning at full capacity, you need to regularly maintain it over time. Here, we’ll go over the maintenance required for your wall-mounted or handheld Aroma Sense shower head.
Replacing the vitamin C cartridge
If you no longer smell the fragrance from the shower head or you see that the cartridge is clear, then it might be time to replace the vitamin C cartridge. Usually, this needs to be done every 90 days for the wall-mounted shower head and every 45 days for the handheld model depending on usage. To replace the cartridge in both types of shower head units, you first want to twist the head counterclockwise while holding either the body of the unit or the handle. Then, take out the old cartridge and replace it with the new one. For the handheld shower head cartridge, you will notice that it is labeled with “In” and “Out” on the side. Make sure that the “In” section goes into the shower head first. Once you have reassembled the shower head, turn on the faucet to check for any leakages.
Increasing output of the vitamin C cartridge
You can increase the strength of the fragrance to mask any odors or fill a larger bathroom with the smell. To do this, you need to remove the vitamin C cartridge from the shower head. Using a thumbtack or sharp object, punch a larger hole where the premade hole is on top of the cartridge. When you have your desired size hold, reinsert the cartridge back into the shower head in the correct position until secure. Turn the faucet on and test it out to see if the strength of the fragrance is enough for you. You can continue to gradually increase the size of the hole until you are happy with the smell.
Cleaning the microfiber filter and spray plate
If you find that the shower head spray seems off or the water flow is inconsistent, there may be an issue with the microfiber filter and spray plate. They should be cleaned regularly to keep your filtration system functioning normally. The process for cleaning these two parts is the same in both the wall-mount and handheld shower heads. First, open the showerhead cap by turning it counterclockwise. Separate the shower head spray plate, shower cap rubber O-ring, and microfiber filter. Under running water, clean the microfiber filter while using your finger to remove any dirt and debris. This filter usually needs to be replaced after 2-3 washes if it a rust-like color. Continue to clean the spray plate with vinegar or dishwasher detergent. Afterward, reassemble the pieces back together into the shower head and place them back onto the unit.
Getting spare parts
Along with regularly maintaining the above parts, we also recommend that you monitor the rest of the shower head unit on a consistent basis for any signs of leakage, damage, or cracks. If it is something you cannot fix, then you may need to replace them. You can easily find all of the spare parts of our shower head units on the Aroma Sense website.
Monitoring, cleaning, and working on the Aroma Sense Aromatherapy Shower Head is like a form of self-care. The extra care you take to regularly maintain your shower head will go a long way in not only keeping the device working for longer, but also will help you on your journey to better health.
