How to Conserve Water this Summer

Take shorter showers
One easy and efficient way to cut your water usage is to keep the length of your shower down. Throughout the shower, you can turn the water off when you are soaping or shampooing to cut down on water usage.

Turn off the water when brushing your teeth
another small life style change that you can make is turning off the running water whilst brushing your teeth. After you have wet your toothbrush, turn off your water

Only run full loads on your dishwasher and clothes washer
Instead of running your dishwasher and clothes washer on frequent small loads, only run them when they are full to optimize water conservation

When washing dishes, don't leave the water running
Don’t leave the water running in between rinses when hand washing dishes. Or perhaps if you have a double basin sink, you can fill one with soapy water and the other with clean water, to wash and rinse dishes effectively.

Plant drought-resistant lawns, shrubs and plants
If you are working on new landscaping for your yard, or are having a hard time keeping your plants alive during the warmer summer months, consider buying drought-resistant plants and grasses. There are many beautiful desert plants that can be used to decorate your yard that don’t require water or frequent irrigation.

Water your lawn only when it needs it
People often over water their lawn without realizing it. An effective way to see if your lawn needs watering is to take a step on the grass. If the grass doesn’t move, then it is time to water it. If it is particularly hot consider not watering your grass all together.

Water during the early parts of the day
Watering earlier on in the day can reduce water loss due to evaporation. It is also important to avoid watering when it is windy, as it can blow the water off target and speed up evaporation.

Fix your Leaks
Whether you are fixing it yourself or hiring a plumber, it is important to make sure you're not wasting water with a leaking faucet in your home

Use efficient plumbing products
A great way to cut your water usage is through toilets or shower heads that conserve water.
