5 Reasons for Dry And Itchy Skin After Showering

The skin is one of the most sensitive parts of the human body. If it is not taken care of it is sure to become dull and dark. Dry and itchy skin problems are very common and are mostly experienced after a shower or bath. So to keep you informed here are some reasons why you may have dry and itchy skin after showering.

1. Use of steamy hot water:
Hot baths and showers are a delight in the winters. They are soothing as well as relaxing. But what we often overlook is that this hot water can damage our skin very badly. When you expose your skin to high temperature, its drains off the natural oils of the skin making it dry. It many extreme cases it can even cause eczema or if already present the condition can get worse.

2. Too much soap or lather:
While showering many of us use shampoos, soaps or shower gels. The more lather they produce the more satisfied we get. But this excessive lather and soap can lead to excessive extraction of natural oils of the skin.

3. Wipe of all the soap:
After showering make sure all the soap has been cleaned out with the water. The residue of soap and its ingredients can cause the skin to become dry and itchy.

4. Harsh towel use:
Most of us use a towel to wipe our bodies dry. In many cases we are in a hurry. So we rub the towel harshly on the skin to make it dry. But this is what can cause the skin to become dry and itchy. The towel should be very soft and a pat dry motion should be used in a gentle manner.

5. Chlorine in the water:
If you haven’t been to the pool recently, you may think it’s been a while, but you’re probably closer to chlorine than you think. Chlorine is present in most shower water and can wreak havoc on the hair and skin. And if you have sensitive skin or allergies, you may develop an itchy rash — or even sinus problems from inhaling chlorine.

A solution that can alleviate dry & itchy skin is to purchase & install a filtered shower head such as a vitamin C shower head that removes chlorine from water. High chlorine levels can be a cause of dry skin & a vitamin C shower head would be a perfect measure to counteract that problem.
